A Toast. To health, wealth, happiness… and Mother Earth. This year has ushered in and out a number of changes — leaving us with sincere moments to embrace: gratitude, appreciation, and time with loved ones. Whether celebrating the holidays alone or with others this year, joy-filled places and spaces bring even more meaning to this holiday season!
Traditionally, holiday lights (in all their splendor) have provided us with the feelings we look forward to all year—warmth and good cheer. Draped throughout the front yard, across the mantel, and ‘round the tree, holiday lights sprinkle in extraordinary moments. If you think about it, Christmas lights signify a greater internal spark within the human spirit. It’s no wonder they make us want to dance, sing, and exchange laughter as we sip our wine and nibble bites of meats and cheeses from our charcuterie boards.
In years past, you’ve likely witnessed the ever-growing (and glowing) shift toward eco-friendly lighting holiday choices. Many holidazers have traded in their traditional plug-in lighting habits for sustainable lighting upgrades, such as solar and LEDs. Have you also jumped on this train?
To celebrate this year’s glad tidings, let’s expand our eco-senses to explore what alternative lighting can offer our holiday season—and the environment.
Sustainable lighting continues to make its way into the mainstream, with more quality products, requiring little to no electricity use. Just think: the flickers, the sparkles, and the luminous awe of holiday lights lift up our spirits, even when powered by the sun!
Why LEDs? LEDs emit the appearance of more light—and they don’t burn out. This is thanks to the technology behind LEDs, which causes these types of bulbs to produce no heat emissions. You don’t burn your hand to the touch, and they function more efficiently. Warm and cool white light options tend to be popular due to the colors/hues given off by the bulbs.
Why solar-powered holiday lights? With solar lighting, your only expense is the purchase of the lights (and any supplies used to hang them). It’s important to strategically place the panel in the most optimally sun-gathering spot throughout the day, so we suggest placing the main solar panel stake in the yard. This will allow your solar lights to charge from dusk to dawn.
Now that we’ve re-explored the realm of conscious lighting, go out there and see what efficient lighting pulls on your innovative heartstrings this year! Investing in holiday lighting is both a means for ambiance and efficiency while giving you the opportunity to spread eco-cheer. As you may already know, your electricity bill will thank you as you have yourself an environmentally-friendly, eco-considerate, merry, little Christmas.
