My family has had a place in Park City, Utah for many, many years — my dad would ski races on its mountain and my grandparents took countless road trips to watch him. It wasn’t long until they decided to make Park City a permanent vacation spot. In the 70’s they bought a place in a developing area, and that developing area is now known as Park City Mountain Resort! Visiting is something I look forward to every year. You might have guessed, but skiing is one of my absolute favorite winter activities. However, don’t let that fool you, I spent a lot of time as a kid crying my way down the slopes out of fear! Good things take time, right? I’m fortunate enough to get on skis pretty often these days. Here are highlights from my Park City visits and must-not-miss stops for your own vacation!

First stop, a deli sandwich and snacks in downtown Salt Lake! Whether you’re driving in or just landed at the airport, you must stop by Caputo’s. A little Italian food is an instant mood booster, and their marketplace is the best to stock up on goodies for your getaway. They have “cheese caves,” can you believe it? These are caves designated for aging and ripening their distinct cheese flavors. They also offer cooking classes if you time your arrival right.

I know what you’re thinking, sushi in Utah? But don’t let that stop you from indulging. And if you’ve got a sushi hater in your group, there’s plenty more on the menu to satisfy their appetite. You can sit at the sushi bar, or if you’re lucky, one of the low tables in the back with benches, plenty of room for everyone. I always start with edamame, and the Yama-mame was a fun way to mix it up. The wagyu beef tataki is an experience you won’t want to miss — cook your meat on a sizzling himalayan sea salt block! Plan to go with a group and share family style to try it all.

This is the food I crave. A great way to start the day or to take a break off the slopes. They even have a smaller location right at the bottom of Park City Mountain. If you’re seeking health, Harvest’s food is free from processing, many ingredients are locally sourced, and dishes incorporate high-quality seasonal varieties. I’m always after their matcha and turmeric latte, but their coffee is also phenomenal, with fair trade, locally roasted beans. I see a smashed avocado, acai bowl, and buddha bowl of goodness in your future!

Every vacation seems to need at least one pizza night! This is a great option for takeout or dining in. Skip the national chains and hit this special place instead. Order the Fuego Antipasto to enjoy local cheeses, Italian meats, bread, and more, try an Italian salad to balance those carbs, and last, pick your wood-fired pizza. I like The Jupiter Pie and Veg Head, but they have a range of unique styles.

What’s a trip out west without a little whiskey? Channel your inner cowboy for fixins at this awesome saloon. Sample a flight with four flavors, like the American Prairie Bourbon, or a delicious whiskey cocktail. You can’t go wrong when it comes to entrées, but the elk and bison bolognese is incredible! A side salad or mac n’ cheese makes a great addition. If you love your time in the saloon, visit Wanship, UT for a tour of the distillery starting every hour on the hour, Thursday to Sunday, 11 am to 3 pm.

There are so many exquisite dishes and flavors in Thai food. Spice is one of my favorite parts of the cuisine, and this restaurant expertly blends traditional and modern food stylings. Start with some Thai calamari and salad rolls. Then have a main of drunken noodles, a curry (the pumpkin curry with extra veggies is my go-to), or a signature dish like the three flavor sea bass. Open 1 to 9 pm all week long!

If you’re in the mood for a taste of the Southwest look no further. Chimayo blends French-American cooking techniques with regional styles to create dishes that are unique and bold. They’ll have a margarita that strikes your fancy, and you’re sure to find a main that feels like it was made for you. Start with a goat cheese and mozzarella chile relleno, try a beet salad, and finish with the enchiladas. Whether duck or vegetable, they’re both delectable!

If you’re planning date night or cocktail hour, my recommendation is Firewood. Meals are prepared with locally sourced ingredients on a wood fire stove, and their cocktails are superb. I’d describe the atmosphere as a classy speakeasy, warm and inviting. For dinner, I always get a salad and often a veggie main, like the roasted cauliflower or twice baked winter squash. Prices can be a little high, but remember the extra change goes toward supporting local farmers!

End your day with a deluxe caramel apple, rich fudge, or delicious ice cream. As a kid, this place was always on the agenda. I’m a sucker for the pecan caramel apple, but they have every flavor — from apple pie to rocky road. Keep it simple or go all out. There’s one shop right at the base of Park City Mountain Resort and another on Main St., so wander over to indulge your craving!

This Park City institution dates back to 1972, although it was bought in 2017 by a group of locals who craved the luxury of sipping libations while enjoying their favorite breakfast-all-day eatery. They added a bar with an impressive list of craft cocktails from their sister restaurant Bar X and an extensive beer list from Beer Bar. The rest is modern-day history!

If you’re looking for live music, local spirits, and a laid-back atmosphere, The Spur Bar & Grill is the place to be. If I'm early for a nearby dinner reservation, I often pop in here for a drink. They offer a wide variety of signature cocktails, as well as top-notch bar food including wings, burgers, and brick oven pizzas, as well as party spaces for hosting private events. Find the live music schedule on their website.

These ski slopes were the former site of the Olympics! Spend your day enjoying the first base of Park City Mountain — it’s only 35 minutes from the SLC airport. You can also take the country’s first bubbled and heated chairlift known as the Orange Bubble Express. The locals love it here, so be sure to stop!

This nonprofit center is a wonderful asset to the Park City community. Stop by for art education, exhibitions, and various events. While you’re driving into town, it’s hard to miss the beautiful White Barn — one of the most photographed barns in the West. The McPolin Farm was an operational dairy farm for decades but Park City purchased it in 1990. Today it’s used for community events like full moon horseshoeing, but it's not available for private functions. You can still drop by and check it out anytime though, and it makes a pretty great photo op!

This local gem is family owned and has been making authentic products since 1876! Stop inside and you’ll understand just how special this store is and why people love it. During my most recent trip, I even got to meet an employee who’s a part of the seventh generation. Wow! For top-tier hats, boots, belts, saddles, and more, a purchase here will have you living your wild West dreams. Fun fact: they’ve received significant buzz since costuming the hit show Yellowstone.

Probably not surprising, but I’m somewhat of a bookworm! Find your leisure reading for your mountain escape at this shop, open since 1972. Stop any time from 10 am to 10 pm, or join a book club if you’re planning to stay in town for a while. I love supporting small shops like this. You’ll also want to browse the event calendar — you never know when your favorite author might be stopping by for a book signing.

I admire Overland Sheepskin for their loyalty to small artisans and their quality-over-quantity approach to creating heirloom pieces with ethics at the top of mind. Cozy up with a new jacket, sheepskin coat, rugs, pillows, home items, and slippers. View the lookbook online so you’re ready for an in-store visit. I have these hiker boots, this cashmere sweater, and the world’s best bomber jacket.
Note: Depending on the season, hotel rates can skyrocket. If you’re looking to make the most of your budget, “off season” is equally as enjoyable in Park City.

This hotel is the closest to my family’s place with ski-in, ski-out access. Stay in a one or two bedroom villa or standard guest room. There’s no location more ideal. The resort has a fitness center, restaurant, pool, game room, dry cleaning, laundry, and more to make your stay enjoyable. Book well in advance because it fills up fast. Fun fact: one of my sisters had her wedding reception at this hotel a few years ago! She got married at the top of the mountain and we ate, drank, and danced here after the ceremony. It was a blast.
