Every day, we make hundreds of choices, big and small. For the big ones, recognizing and understanding when it’s the right time for change can be an integral part of our decisions — and it can be tricky. Our minds are hardwired to scan for anything that feels threatening or "off.” If the job you’d like to leave offers you stability, your mind may lose focus on the opportunities a new job can provide. Even if you’ve found the perfect partner, your mind will often highlight any perceptions of incompatibility or concern. This hardwiring came from long ago when the world was full of immediate threats — for early humans, relaxing for a moment might have meant being eaten by a wooly mammoth!
Many people have heard of the chakras, the meridians, or the body’s energy fields. These parts of your energy anatomy make up your energy system and can affect your health, wellness, and well-being. You have different types of energies that flow through this system, such as your life-force energy (or vitality), your creative energies, and your will forces, the energies that help motivate and drive your work. Even your thoughts are an energy, and together these energies are the voice of your authentic compass.
To access these energies, connect with your higher self, the wisest and kindest voice within. In doing so, you can determine how well your energy and the energies around you are harmonizing. When we are in harmony with ourselves and the world around us, we can make the choices that best support our goals and the life we desire. We call that being in flow. When you are in flow, destiny meets you where you are. When you make decisions based on the wisest part of you — your higher self, you can find more ease in making the tough decisions and more confidence that your choices are right for their particular timing.
Here is one grounding practice and six energy-based tips to help you when you are faced with a difficult decision or challenging timing. Before following this advice, take a few moments to center yourself — this will help you to be open to the different ways that your higher self speaks to you.
Your higher self speaks to you through your body sensations, emotions, thoughts, messages (audible and visual ones), and even signs from the world around you.
These tips will help you open the dialog.
Use these energy-based techniques to help you hear your inner voice and the direction that your higher self is pushing you. However, don’t let your gut feelings overrule your reason and logic. Always check in with your brain. For example: If you want to invest in the stock market and it is at an all-time high, does that seem like a wise decision? Highly unlikely. Should you get married when there is significant family turmoil? Perhaps there is a better time for celebration.
You are much more than your physical body, and you live a larger life than the one you experience in your day-to-day reality. Using these techniques will help you navigate an unsettled mind's chatter and ground yourself in clarity for big decisions. In addition, they will expand your inner compass by helping you strengthen your communication with your higher self.
